Got 'em!

Hmmm. Those who hang separately will eventually hang together. Apparently Ben got it backwards. 20px-1298786.png Rej¿¤¤? 06:20, March 5, 2012 (UTC)

Anyone notice that Gil picked Tarvek's pocket? He managed to get Tarvek's notes on Lucrezia's techniques. -- Billy Catringer 06:23, March 5, 2012 (UTC)

More than notes on her tech, that book also holds Tarvek's personal research notes... The notes containing his theories on revenant immunization. Charlotte Eisenlöwe 07:19, March 5, 2012 (UTC)

Between storming Castle Heterodyne with the mob of Mechanicsburgers and this little bit of turning Othar's heroic tropes against him, I think we can agree that Gil is a consummate showman. So where did he learn to do what is essentially improv comedy so well? Does it come naturally, did he learn it from his father somehow, or did he learn it in Paris? —jdreyfuss 15:07, March 5, 2012 (UTC)

I think he learned on accident while in Mechanicsburg. -- Billy Catringer 01:24, March 6, 2012 (UTC)

Gil, Tarvek & Othar have had a falling out. {SNERK}--Bosda Di'Chi 15:16, March 5, 2012 (UTC)

Gil may have dropped Tarvek and Othar from his little coterie, but the two of them are bound to stick together. I'm sure that friendship is just taking off. ;) —jdreyfuss 15:35, March 5, 2012 (UTC)

As to why Bang d
Bang327
oes stuff for the baron and not gil, the baron is helping her with some unknown problem she has. Agathahetrodyne 16:50, March 5, 2012 (UTC)
It's not unknown. From the Secret Blueprints (available as an e-book) and the novel, Bang is looking for the person(s) who wiped out her pirate crew and lair (that would be Zeetha). Klaus' intelligence services can provide more information than Bang could find on her own and Klaus has a dangerous manic under his control. AndyAB99 17:05, March 5, 2012 (UTC)

And that is surprising for someone like Bangladesh DuPree when you think about it. Why didn't she just pick another crew and start over? For that matter, why didn't Klaus just sentence her to a long stint of hard labor in Castle Heterodyne and be done with it? That is what he did to Sanaa Tryggvassen after all. There does not seem to be a simple explanation for any of this. And, why is it that Klaus is so interested in the things that Bang witnesses? -- Billy Catringer 01:24, March 6, 2012 (UTC)
Because that's what the Foglio's wanted in their story. The rational is found in Agatha H. and the Airship City (the novel) and Girl Genius: The Secret Blueprints for Volume One (available as a PDF from DriveThruComics - I own both print and pdf versions). Both state Bang was away when someone (Zeetha) destroyed her lair, killing all of the pirates and destroying all stores and supplies. Bang had only what she was wearing and carrying when Klaus decided she would be useful if he employed her, even though he knows he probably will have to fight her someday. If she is working for him, she isn't pirating and he doesn't have to fight her now. As for her witnessing things, it's just part of collecting information. All of Klaus' officers report their observations to him. What really piqued Klaus' interest was the "time window" as it was very odd and probably reminded him of something he saw before, possibly connected to the Other. That's what he wanted to hear about. Bang is still no where to be found. Anytime she vanishes off-camera that way, Klaus's insurance rates go up....--Bosda Di'Chi 20:33, March 5, 2012 (UTC)

At first, when people suggested that Bang might be wasped, I disagreed because if she was (I thought) she would have brought Gil and Tarvek to Klaus and Lucrezia-in-Anevka, not just follow along with them. But now I'm beginning to think she was wasped after all and either her orders allowed her to think for herself enough that she was able to decide that finding the location of Gil's secret lab was more important that capturing him right away or her direct order was to find Gil's lab. In either case, now that she has the location, she has gone off to bring more soldiers to subdue Gil, Tarvek and Vole and bring them to Klaus.
Well, I'm sure I'll find out how wrong I am soon. --William Ansley 03:53, March 6, 2012 (UTC)
That didn't take long at all! --William Ansley 22:41, March 7, 2012 (UTC)

People have been speculating as to why it was so critical for Othar to return from the alternate timeline. The main theory I have seen thus far is that he must rescue Gil. However, we see in today's page that Othar has either failed, or he has succeeded at a different goal. What if he needed to save Tarvek from something? Or save someone else, like Agatha? Or maybe his rescue of Tarvek will save Agatha? Whatever he needs to do, I hope he can do it and prevent the destruction seen in the Twitter timeline. Also, I forsee a mid-flight re-build of some sort, similar to the first fall flight. ~Mysteria Femina~ (talkAvatar wall) 22:53, March 5, 2012 (UTC)

It was alternative-Tarvek who sent Othar from the Twitter timeline, so it may be something Tarvek knows. It's possible that capturing Tarvek and bringing him to the Castle Wulfenbach while Klaus is lost, was the only or at least primary purpose of Othar -- Tarvek persuaded the Wulfenbach military to defend Mechanicsburg and brought his notes to Gil. That gives Agatha time to prepare defense against more Knights of Jove and other Lucrezia's forces, and allows Gil to either cure or depose Klaus. It prevents the event that devastated Europa in the Othar's Twitter timeline -- Lucrezia taking over Agatha's body and running the Wulfenbach empire. 76.225.159.145 12:45, March 6, 2012 (UTC)
That, too. If that was the goal, he definitely succeeded. : P ~Mysteria~ (talk) 00:06, March 7, 2012 (UTC)

I have come to think of Othar as a pair of dice. He's there to keep some modicum of randomness in the story. -- Billy Catringer 01:24, March 6, 2012 (UTC)

I'm a bit surprised to see that Othar is still going after Gil since I assumed the Wulfenbach people had removed the 'splodey collar from around his neck. I guess that the collar is still covered up by the sweater and he's still on the clock, since he technically didn't finish the job. Other people have the keys to the collar other than the Baron, right? LittleAlvinMaker 12:58, March 6, 2012 (UTC)

Whaa isn't Tarvek the one who (possibly) has control over Lunevka? Guess we won't find out anytime soon... Monumenterment 17:31, March 6, 2012 (UTC)
