Discussion for comic for 2012-04-09 (Monday) . (Chronology Entry)

IKnewIt

It's my fault.

I really don't have anything to contribute, except to say that at this point I have no idea what's really going on with Tarvek or Gil, how much control Klaus has over his actions, or how much he actually knows. —jdreyfuss 12:28, April 9, 2012 (UTC)

So, just where are Lunevka and Zola? Both Zola and Tarvek didn't seem to know Gil was Klaus' son until they were inside Castle Heterodyne. So - what's going on here? AndyAB99 13:03, April 9, 2012 (UTC)

Your Zola and Tarvek links above both point to the same page. I'm guessing you intended your Tarvek link to point to this page. --William Ansley 16:06, April 9, 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. I corrected the link. AndyAB99 18:59, April 9, 2012 (UTC)
Gil not possible

Search your feelings, you *know* it to be true!

You're welcome. As for the new image, sorry, but I couldn't resist. --William Ansley 20:32, April 9, 2012 (UTC)

Zola was *definately* acting there. This begins to make sense. {C}Incidentally, I didn't really believe that this was a trick. It makes for a better story this way. :)68.94.174.76 14:04, April 9, 2012 (UTC)

You say Zola has been acting all this time? Really? Even telling Gill this? It does not make sense. It's too soap-opera, even for Girl Genius. if the Foglios are indeed taking the story in this direction, they have just contradicted themselves. There's just TOO many acts within acts within acts going on here. AndyAB99 14:57, April 9, 2012 (UTC)

It could be that the stormvarus know who Gill was in Paris and told Zola to Wasp the spark she know without telling her that it was the the Barons son that she was friend whit. Agge.se 15:06, April 9, 2012 (UTC)
Then that means all of Europa's Sparks are wasped and The Order (and The Other) have totally and completely won, Game over! If they are THAT good at finding, identifying, and wasping Gil, without anyone being aware, they are invincible as they already control everything. This is getting silly! Sparks being wasped since The Others first appearance? Who isn't wasped and how could anyone have possibly NOT have been wasped? How do you fight this when you CAN NOT trust anyone at all? AndyAB99 15:22, April 9, 2012 (UTC)
I agree that the scenario would be too paranoid for the tone of the comic, but there are ways to tell who to trust. There must be some kind of tell, like in The Thing. —jdreyfuss 15:55, April 9, 2012 (UTC)

WOW, Just WOW The professor is really ungodly¤ good at making the storyline complicated right when you think that some problems is resolved. Agge.se 14:41, April 9, 2012 (UTC)
¤(I hope that this is a ok use of that word if it is not please tell me)

WOW indeed. NOT what I was expecting! I still have some questions, though:

  1. Why didn't the weasel react to Klaus? (They don't need to be pointed anywhere or "activated" to detect a wasp---they reacted on their own to the miniature hive engine and/or a distant crowd at some point.)
  2. Has Agatha ever given Gil an order which he followed?

I don't think Dupree has really been poisoned---Tarvek only planned for Gil to drink the "antidote," and certainly the Wulfenbach heir would be FAR more useful alive and wasped than dead.

Oh my god I love this comic. Caedocyon 15:52, April 9, 2012 (UTC) (I caved and created an account.)

Does this page mean more to us now then? If Gil really is wasped, which seems to be the general consensus here, would this be an example of Agatha's command voice in action? And would that mean Tarvek knew Gil had been wasped all this time? If so, Tarvek's "cure" was either truly an attempt to poison Gil, or just an attempt to help that innocently failed... Or did it? Maybe the "cure" would indeed be a cure for Gil, and it poisoned Dupree because a) she isn't a spark and b) because she didn't actually have a wasp. Good Heavens, these last developments have really thrown a wrench in my theories. Charlotte Eisenlöwe 17:56 April 9, 2012 (UTC

I was about to bring up the same page Charlotte references above- Gil has never interacted directly with Lucrezia, and this is perhaps the only time Agatha has yelled a command at him (which seems to be what it takes for the Other's servants to respond to her while Agatha is in control), so we don't know if it's a one-time thing. But given Lucrezia's ability to command Vrin to die, perhaps this was a stronger clue. Far less romantic, though... sigh : / If Gil has been wasped, however, I don't believe that Tarvek knows about it. He's certainly been known to have more up his sleeve than he lets on, but periodically finds that plans have developed without his knowledge. I think it's plausible that Gil has been wasped but that Klaus is misrepresenting the How and By Whom via a combination of his own misinformation and Lucrezia's instruction. 208.189.133.129 19:10, April 9, 2012 (UTC)

I am not sure that we need to reconsider all the past events here and come up with an entirely new understanding of the plot. We already know (positively) that the Baron has been wasped and is under Lucrezia's control. Therefore, he can not be a relied on to be truthful about just about anything. Of course he is going to tell Gil things that make GIl mistrust Agatha and Tarvek. That makes perfect sense as long as we remember that Lucrezia does not want Gil and Agatha to work together.

That seems clear as day to me. Is there something I am not understanding?

Jagerfan.207.86.104.158 19:58, April 9, 2012 (UTC)

You're absolutely right---a lot of it could still be planted lies. But Gil's miraculous recovery/response to Agatha's command voice (as linked above) is pretty damning as far as the wasp bit goes. That Omar and Vrin involuntarily died when ordered to has been enough for us to conclude that they were revenants.... Caedocyon 21:18, April 9, 2012 (UTC)
I can accept Lucrezia ordering Lady Vrin to die. I cannot accept Agatha "commanding" Gil not to. It just doesn't strike me as how that works. She's certainly shouting at Gil here and he isn't meeking saying "yes, mistress". Nor do I subscribe to the silliness that Agatha accidentily ordered Omar to die. The locket killed Omar, a non-spark, as he did not posess the level of "life force" or whatever that a strong spark like Agatha has. The locket is now suppressing Lucrezia's "energy", leaving Agatha untouched. AndyAB99 13:15, April 10, 2012 (UTC)
The people in Sturmhalten who kneeled didn't say "yes, mistress" either. I don't think ordering Gil not to die would have completely cured him, but it could have prompted the wasp to help fight off whatever was wrong with him at that point (that subplot was confusing; I lose track). Extra burst of energy, extra T-cells, what have you. Ordering someone to die is a lot easier. There are probably a thousand ways to kill someone if you have complete control over their voluntary and involuntary brain functions, from shutting down important brain centers to stopping breathing. And that fits nicely with the way Omar just shuts down.
In your example, she's not using the command voice when she gives him an order (and it's a conditional order, too). [ETA: "If you're so concerned about my safety, then get me off this ship!" Isn't that the one you mean? Caedocyon 17:55, April 10, 2012 (UTC)] It would probably take a full reread to get to all the scenes between them and test the theory, and I might do that at some point....
I guess we just see it differently---my love for completely wild twists and cracked-out theories definitely colors my vision. I'm excited to see what happens either way! Caedocyon 16:16, April 10, 2012 (UTC)
Reread the comic. It takes Agatha a bit to get into her rant. She is just shouting in frustration, not at any visible person. Moloch and Omar have taken off running down a short alley then into a crowded market street. I doubt they heard Agatha. And if Moloch and Omar were traveling together, why is only Omar infected? I view this as serious overthinking and over- conmplicating of an obivous literary clue - the locket is important and powerful. There's just too many layers of "foreshadowing" otherwise. Yes, I note that several fans of this webcomic seem to imagine/invent all kinds of connections. The genre is known for it's complexity and twists and turns. And the Foglios do not have this all mapped out, start-to-finish, on paper. The main thread is in their heads (their own admission). They make up later details. The novels include efforts to back-fill the story that wasn't even on their minds when the comic version first came out. AndyAB99 16:38, April 10, 2012 (UTC)

Wow, so much to think about and so little data to think upon. Here's my $0.02 (currently marked down to $0.01 due to quality control issues.) The only spark capable wasp was used on the Baron, therefore none of the other sparky characters are revenants. Why only the one? No one who would seem be in the know (Vrin, Lucrezia) seems to have had any knowledge of the spark capable wasp. Therefore Gil is not a revenant. Why did he obey Agatha's command voice? Well, there is this. Also, Bang is not wasped and is now wasp resistant. She was judged clean by a proper weasel deployed by a member of the Vesper Squad, and then treated with the antiwasp potion. Yes, I know, there is unaccounted for time in here, but what do you want for one cent? Why is she comatose now? Well, the purple glow around her when we saw her last looks a lot like the blue glow surrounding Agatha after she drank the waters of the Dyne. I'm going to posit that the two compounds are related somehow (keep in mind, one cent.) They both rendered the imbiber comatose after an energy expenditure. (Also, bear in mind that the Jagers all drank a Dyne based potion and are wasp resistant.) I'm inclined to think that she will recover and be subjected to an attempted wasping, the failure of which she will hide. This will convice her that Gil was right all along and she will act to help him. Tarvek is currently playing a straight game. He has as much to lose as anyone from a victory by the Other. He will use his involuntary association with Othar (Master Escape Artist) to free Gil (somehow.) Pretty thin gruel, I admit. It suggests that Gil will be freed and the Empire challenged by an unlikly association of Bang, Tarvek, and Othar. (Okay, okay, I'll mark it down to $0.005.) --Gsulli7369 00:00, April 10, 2012 (UTC)

I couldn't have said it better myself. ~Mysteria~ (talk) 04:21, April 10, 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. I'll admit I'm kind of hoping to see it play out this way. Bang, Tarvek, and Othar would be the most entertaining triad since Curly was a Stooge. --Gsulli7369 22:27, April 10, 2012 (UTC)

Has anyone looked at todays page Tuesday? Its very pretty. Agathahetrodyne 20:26, April 10, 2012 (UTC)

Yes, it is. It looks much better than the dust jacket that was on the hard cover book I received from Amazon on Monday. I could barely see Lunevka on the dust jacket version and was not certain of who was fighting with her until I saw the online version. -- Billy Catringer 22:32, April 10, 2012 (UTC)

There's now a forum page for the book cover. Argadi 23:50, April 10, 2012 (UTC)

Oscars, Emmys and maybe a 412[]

Umm. It is absurd. Gil could not have been spark wasped in Paris. Certainly not in the first three months he was there. Zola disappeared then. A regular wasp would not have affected him. Of course if the Other thinks he is already wasped then no one will try to wasp him again. If DuPree is believed to be poisoned then she won't be questioned until later. The story might possibly fool someone who hasn't been around for the last 16 years if say they were trying to use gears for brains. Especially if the authors slipped them the stupid ball.

I hope Klaus is feeding Lunevka misinformation, but we already know he truly believes the Other is in control of Agatha. —jdreyfuss 03:16, April 10, 2012 (UTC)
My take is that Klaus and Gil are trying to communicate over and insecure channel. Klaus is trying to keep Gil from being wasped for real. Gil is going along with it and passing Klaus info by dropping Zola's name into the conversation. As well as cluing Klaus in on Tarvek's adventures with Bang. 20px-1298786.png Rej¿¤¤? 01:37, April 11, 2012 (UTC)

Chronology[]

Anyone going to work on the Chronology entry? Argadi 23:50, April 10, 2012 (UTC)

Go ahead and give it a shot, Argadi. I have already had a couple of turns. -- Billy Catringer 04:37, April 11, 2012 (UTC)
