I know we're all used to the Foglio's defying predictions, so I understand some people not expecting the obvious (it's Agatha in the whatever-that-is). My sudden thought was maybe the surprise is the armor Agatha is actually wearing when she steps out of that battle clank. At least, she has to have changed her outfit into something more befitting a princess. And Tarvek is going to be appalled at her fashion sense (or amazed, who knows).
