General Rudolf Selnikov, Commander of the Knights of Jove, had the misfortune of being in charge of the war-stomper invasion of Mechanicsburg. He had set out to seize it in the name of the House of Valois — all part of the Knights' attempt to restore the Storm King's line to the rulership of Europa using a clever manipulation of legend, circumstance and timing to their best advantage.
Unfortunately for the General, he faced a very determined Gilgamesh Wulfenbach and was incinerated, very appropriately, by a massive artificially-generated lightning blast on his craft. Even that may not be the last we'll see of him, however, as Gil has since dispatched a minion to collect his head for information-gathering purposes.
From the close resemblance (and shared interests), Lord Selnikov of Sturmhalten is probably his brother. They might even be the same person, as the Lord hasn't been seen since the General's untimely demise. The nobility's tradition of sending the younger brother off to war while the older brother inherits the title (and land) makes kinship seem more likely, even though the Lord looks to be a bit younger than the General.
Recent events might give the good general a chance to quit while he's ahead. [2]
