Thank you Edit

Thanks for directing me where to put my Mongfish conspiracy thing....

I'm still fumbling my way through attempts at understanding the steps for getting ideas in the right place. I just don't want to bother people by asking a whole lot of questions, in fear that the answer should be "obvious," you know?

Anyways, I created a new fan theory and removed my original theory from the Tarvek Talk page.

Thanks Axisor 17:38, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

You can be sneaky and send me e-mails if you want. ;) -- Corgi 17:40, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the Twitter Forum! (and i did attempt to send you an ADHD email the other day)--Axisor 02:09, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

Croeso! Feel free to add some earlier entries, too. They should sort automatically. I had to puzzle out the structure a little, but Cut & Paste Is My Friend. Still have this mystery category being built out of I-don't-know-what though.... [scratches head] -- Corgi 02:12, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

MediaWiki messages Edit

Hi Corgi,

The MediaWiki messages on Special:WantedPages are linked from the userpage for User:Wikia, and can be used to customize the messages used by the automated welcome tool. If you are happy with the default messages, then no action is necessary. We feel it's important to provide links to these on the bot's userpage to help people understand how it works, but are working on a way to prevent these messages from appearing on WantedPages so they don't cause this minor frustration.  :)

Thanks for asking! — Catherine@Wikia (talk) 03:26, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

Othar's Twitter Forum Edit

Thank you for setting this up! --m 06:57, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

Croeso! I think I dotted all the 'i's and crossed the 't's. Corgi 07:16, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

Baron/Mad Edit

Baron Klaus Wulfenbach/Mad: We should probably mark links to fanfiction as such, on the slight chance that Those Who Are Forbidden to Read It happen to randomly stumble across a page through a Google search or such. Maybe with a little (fanfiction) note or something. --m 05:06, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Well, I thought it was pretty well labelled as such - 'in the form of storytelling'. No? And it is just a link.
Google we can't control, though, not what it displays or summarises. -- Corgi 05:27, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Re WelcomeEdit

Thanks, and sorry it took me so long to reply. Between Lostpedia and and that small thing called my real life, I'm still reading the old comics so I'll know what I'm talking about. I'm all the way up to March 2003. It will be a long time before I consider myself educated enough to say anything intelligent. And I don't want to spoil things by reading the wrong page at the wrong time.--Jim in Georgia Contribs Talk 22:18, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

Busy Puppy! Edit

Wow Corgi.... went in and filled in all those missing forum page-by-page.... lot of new pages. What provoked it? -- Axi 13:56, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

Whoa! Uh... I thought we agreed we were not going to zero-fill the forums? Can you imagine how many empty pages of clutter that's going to create if it's done for every page since 2001 or whenever? m (talk) 14:44, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

OH.... yeah--and I was just going in and putting
{{Forumheader|Page-by-Page}} Discussion for comic for {{GG link|20050615|2005-06-15 (Wednesday)}} ----
on the pages (dates altered accordingly) because i thought the pages were sticking around and needed to have the proper headings.... -- Axi 14:54, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
No, we didn't agree, Mnen. :) There's no other way to 'get rid' of them from Wanted Pages and they're very small and not harming anyone. I've already done... what, a couple thousand or close to it? I'm not sure where these are coming from.
Axi, don't keep going with the forumheader links; just clean it up if somebody actually goes that far back to comment on something and doesn't put them in themselves. They don't need to be that ready for use if they don't have to. The ones you've done are fine, it's not worth your time to go back and strip anything out. -- Corgi 16:51, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
Yeah--that's why I stopped after half a dozen or so... I'm just curious, is there a way to get those in automatically when the page is made? -- Axi 16:57, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
Oh, good - I'd hate to think of somebody trying to keep up with my OCD. *wink* Argadi's been trying to figure out some way to solve it in the code, which is where those funny 1800 dates come from, but he hasn't solved it yet. Until he does, we're stuck with either a useless Wanted Pages report (which I think would discourage some new editors looking for a way to contribute) or we put in a couple dozen bytes and ignore them. I'm not sure why these showed up, though. I thought everything was caught up. There's nothing in the Delete Log either, so these must be brand new links somehow. You shoulda seen it before I waded in with the machete - there were, literally, a couple thousand Wanted Pages listed, and 90% were Page-by-Page. Made me nutz. -- Corgi 17:14, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
This is... not an optimal solution. While I can appreciate how much you had to do to get rid of them, I thought Argadi was going to remove the code creating the red link (coming from the chronology pages, I thought). As it is, I don't have any plans to delete all these pages. siiiiigh. m (talk) 17:30, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
Hardly optimal, but necessary. He still hasn't solved the code problem.
Those pages are pretty much invisible for the most part anyway - aren't they? If you Hide Minor Edits, you won't even see them on Recent Changes. -- Corgi 17:38, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
My OCD-ness is trying to get the stale pages top 10 list to something that will never really possibly get changed, like all disambiguation pages or something like that... though recently I have discovered that pages that are structurally different from the rest drive me a little batty :-P -- Axi 18:04, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
Like which? Corgi 18:53, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
I fix most of them as i come across them, but that's the reason i was putting all those forumheaders into there until I decided I wasn't going to spend forever working on it and had better articles to hack at :-D -- Axi 19:47, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
Ahhh, I seeee. ^_^ -- Corgi 20:03, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

Um. Could you just add an annotation to an unwanted page so the wanted pages report could distinguish between dud's and desired's? It might also allow a unwanted pages report so dead pages could be deleted? Something like {{unwanted}} for example? --Rej¿¤¤? 20:08, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

Thing is, they're not unwanted, just largely unused (since it requires people to go back over covered ground); and adding a template to the redlink isn't any different from adding the short sentence I have been adding. It's mostly just tedious work, but since it is 90%+ caught up, all it needs is a little maintenance.
If you want to go back and comment on various pages in Vol. I-VII, do so! It'll help round out the forum's range. -- Corgi 21:19, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

The WulfenbuckEdit

... i see you scattering them all over the place in your summary notes. Do they depict the value of the article? -- Axi 04:22, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

More like 'my two pence'... or comments of greater value. :D -- Corgi 04:27, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

Invitation to Axi and Brassica Edit

If the two of you are inclined to work on updating the image files (they're not endless, honest) with sourcing links, and there's some you just can't ID, whap on me here. I'm responsible for half of them, and I apologise for being sloppy (sometimes it's a momentum issue). -- Corgi 17:44, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

Sure--if you show me what to do... it probably is pretty obvious but my ADHD must be kicking in :D ooh! Shiney...... -- Axi 19:38, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
Look at how I added the pagelinks in the grapnel guns images, that's a handy one. Low priority catchup, whenever you feel like browsing around. I'll probably pick at some of them out of guilt. ;) -- Corgi 21:15, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
Um.. I'll try--I just need to add existing links to the images? Because I don't have software to capture the images with (or else I'd be doing it instead of marking them for other generous souls.... :D). Right now I'm working on making my first article and was wondering if you'd take a look and see if I messed up how it needs to be done? I'm going to look at it again tomorrow to see if I can think of anything else to add. -- Axi 00:25, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
Nonono, no graphics manipulation - you have to be able to find what page they're from, that's all. Matching.
And I'm honoured to look at your draft. -- Corgi 00:46, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
Wow--you weren't kidding about the number of images w/o the ref links... If I do 12 today, can I get this engine picture for Atmospheric Ionization engine?  ;) (Seeing as I know i'll do at 12 today and you probably will do the image anyway--just don't forget the source link :D) -- Axi 17:10, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
Of course and of course and yes ma'am. -- Corgi 17:17, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
Causing more trouble File:Battlecircus.jpg and File:BattleCircus.png.... Duplicates, not sure how to resolve it -- Axi 18:16, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
Um... I see no PNG version, the link is red. EDIT: Aha, different spelling. Let me look. Corgi 18:19, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
Pick which version you like better (the jpg is slightly cropped, the png is the whole thing), make sure that one's in the Battle Circus article and delete the other as a duplicate. -- Corgi 18:22, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

So I've finished Category:Bestiary Images except for the mimmoth, which i hope you can help with... I think that plus all the devices is enough for the day ::yawn:: nap time! -- Axi 20:33, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

Nice job on the Wacky Weave De-stabilizer page Edit

It was nice that you got both before and after images of the device in action. Very thorough. --Rej¿¤¤? 20:08, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

Thank you. Axi provides the pagelinks, makes it easy. -- Corgi 21:12, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

Joke template Edit

Y'know, with my track record, a very clear "The preceding comment was supposed to be funny" would really save me a lot of grief. m (talk) 16:35, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for welcome Edit

Appreciated! Now, a bit of advice on speculation. The page for the first Heterodyne suggests he was Hun or Mongol. But an invasion around the Danube, on the east edge of the German lands that we would call the Holy Roman Empire? Around the year 1000 AD? If history hasn't been munged too badly by the Spark, that would logically be the Hungarians (aka the Magyar). Since they were thought to be related to the Huns and were similar to the Mongol at that point in history, the association seems obvious to me... enough so that I didn't think it required a mad page. I thought of asking on the discussion page, but that would be the first post to it... OK, or should I change more? Catfishncod 23:43, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

Category structure Edit

I apologize for not noticing when you first moved a bunch of articles into Category:Meta. We have to find a new home for some of these. Meta is just for things about the wiki itself. Templates, help articles, etc. The other stuff needs to find a new home, either in an existing category or a new one. I'm posting here first, because I'm worried that if I make a new category or move these articles that you'll be unhappy with the changes and we'll have to sort it out anyway. m (talk) 22:36, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

I think you weren't Around at the time I went on the pruning rampage. The major branches were looking cluttered; I never really liked the way those few changes felt, but I was hoping for an umbrella that would cover Our World/Meta/Help/non-historical (or '-historical')-slash-narrative-produced stuff. If that makes sense. The dogs let me sleep about 6 hours after I was up about 26 straight. -- Corgi 23:53, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
Vhy hyu do dot? Hyu needs sleep!
But yes, we really do need to decide on a term for "outside world" or what-have-you that you can be happy with. m (talk) 14:02, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
Relay For Life, dear - it's a marathon event. SL as a whole raised over a quarter-million US$.
Did you read the input I got from non-editors? Some of it will depend on people not being spoon-fed. -- Corgi 17:17, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

Gil's sibs Edit

Hi Corgi, I can see you are firmly against the notion of Zola being related to Gil. You may be right. But you are not correct in saying it is impossible.

I like weird hypotheses. It keeps life as a fan fun. And I based Rej Maddog on characters who shared that notion. So as Rej I feel perfectly fine in pursuing them. The challange was to come up with a theory that uses all the facts known at present. The deduction also use some story "logic". Mostly that incongruous facts are keys to future developments/revelations.

Still with this one I have reason to think I could get the points.

  1. There must have been some reason for the tellers to choose 2yrs and 3mo when 10 months or a year would have made the point about Klaus Barry's parentage.
  2. Klaus and Lucrezia had motive and opportunity.
  3. Zola is about the right age.
  4. Zola bears some traits (physical and character) resembling those of Lucrezia (e.g. the portrait in the castle and Zola's unabashed duplicity).
  5. It would explain why she thinks she is a Heterodyne.
  6. We have not been introduced to anyone else who might be her parents.
  7. It's the sneaky kind of thing the authors would do to us.

For your consideration. --Rej¿¤¤? 21:43, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

OT page link Edit

Hi Corgi, First results of Othar experimentation. {{OT page link|status#|alt name}} links to tweets with some of their previous context.

This is a new template based on OT link. There is a test script on the Templates discussion page. Please check it out and let me know what you think. --Rej¿¤¤? 23:01, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

Rej, that's not new, that's the way the template has always worked, same as the GG page templates. Oh, and the 'nowiki' tag works better for the intent you had here. I'll go and look at what you've got on that page, though. -- Corgi 23:16, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
Appearance is the same. The behavior is different when you follow the link. --Rej
Wikia is/was not behaving, let's try this again.
I did notice that, it took me a little while though. Clever work, that. Now what do we do with it? -- Corgi 18:03, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

Transdimensional/Mad Edit

Thanks for putting in the link. I have no excuse - I was just distracted and lazy.

As for indenting vs. subheadings -- I wanted to try formatting a mad page with indentations because I'm not happy with how subheadings are rendered. The fonts are sized and bolded inconsistently, making it visually difficult to tell how things are organized. If I could use both ==== and indentation, that would be ideal, since it would work with a TOC. m (talk) 03:17, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Nah, link was no problem. I've gone over that stuff so often, I know it pretty well backwards and forwards. Rej's page-link works really well for something like that - I'm really pleased he figured out how to get the URL to work in there, it's been more use than I'd realised at first.
I've been doing four = for Replies/Counter-Theories, and two for Theories. I know what you mean about the indent, that's so annoying. I have CSS/HTML that will do the job, but I don't know if it would work here, and hardly anybody would remember how to use it. The only problem I can see with indents is that people will get even more confused with forums if they look the same. -- Corgi 03:56, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
Hi Corgi, thanks for moving the Bzzownt zweeeng... paragraph to a useful place.

OT Page LinkEdit

Glad you found a good use for the Page Link stuff. I started a log of wiki meta-findings Turns out twitter allows showing multiple pages of tweets nicely. I haven't made a template yet. I learned a certain amount of caution from my first attempts. ;-) --Rej¿¤¤? 20:24, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
I haven't tacked Geisterdamen/Mad yet. I may have to be a little more creative, so anything you find misparsed, let's sort it out here.
As to multiple pages... diminishing returns. How many pages? Othar's is up in the 30s. -- Corgi 21:18, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
I always like flexibility. Also, I think you miss the beauty here. You can limit what is shown by choosing the latest tweet shown=status id. You can choose how much context you want by choosing one, two, three etc. pages. If you don't need that, you are not forced to use it. If you do, you are not prevented. --Rej¿¤¤? 07:24, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
[shrug] Sure. OK, I can see that. -- Corgi 08:02, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Tanstaafl Edit

Yep. Heinlein. A page on the web is better than the best memory, let alone my poor one.

I was thinking Clarke because of his third law. Which got turned around by Agatha during the Spark-arella fractured fairytale.

You have my permission to just fix any of my mistakes. Your powers of observation and carefulness are well proven IMO.

Geisterdamen Thanks Edit

Hi Corgi, Thanks for your response to my watercooler post. It was nice to see the page reappear in Forum format.

I took the opportunity to re-edit to get away from the albino controversy. It was noisy and not central to my thinking.

You do good work and it's appreciated. --Rej¿¤¤? 23:44, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Very kind of you to say so; you're welcome. -- Corgi 23:54, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Good to see your edits again Edit

You do good work and it's appreciated. --Rej 11:56, December 3, 2009 (UTC)

Thanks, Rej. I was distracted by a calendar deadline and struggling to keep my utilities turned on. I'm trying to get back over here, but my attention keeps getting yanked away. -- Corgi 22:19, December 3, 2009 (UTC)

Yea. Jägershots Edit

I was wondering if there were more than I had seen. There were. Now there are less. Thanx --Rej¿¤¤? 00:09, April 26, 2010 (UTC)

Dyne-o-mite Edit

You don't visit often these days, but when you do... Boy! Great to see the sibling-hood of Zeetha and Gil confirmed. Now all we have to do is prove Krosp is the barons Dog. Assuming of course that Gil is the Storm King.

Anyway to keep you around I just thought I'd mention that you clobbered a couple of GG links when you inserted tv_trope templates. Baron Klaus Wulfenbach/Mad, look at the history. I can't from looking at it figure out what your intention was, so I leave it to you to fix.

I got a big laugh from the link for the Klaus’s Mistakes. We ought to make that permanent, either by protecting the page or by having it redirect to a Klaus's never makes mistakes page. What do you think?

Anyway, thanks for your contribution. --Rej¿¤¤? 19:18, October 8, 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for help Edit

...with the grammar and punctuation on the weekly summary. --Rej¿¤¤? 04:21, January 14, 2011 (UTC)

That'll keep me humble. Edit

I went to peek at your edit on Klaus's page while trying to guess which of our recent prolific editors had added the offending remark. I found you had removed the clever connection I had made between Klaus and Shakespeare's mid-summer nights dream. And here I thought I had made an observation and not a speculation. Cause it is you editing and on Klaus's page I bow to your superior abilities.

Still it will turn out that the naughty flashback scene took place mid-summer, probably at the Mongfish citadel where night happens in daylight in mid-summer. I have great faith in the Great Pumpkin Conjecture. 20px-1298786.png Rej¿¤¤? 02:52, June 1, 2011 (UTC)

Names of Muses Edit

Hi. Cause it is you I presume the names you added are canon or nearly so. Since they are not in the pages I presume they are in the new novel. Can you provide ref notes somewhere on the Muses page (or here). Is there a preview of the novel on the web already? Pub date seems to be April 1 on Amazon.

Yours in curiosity, 20px-1298786.png Rej¿¤¤? 05:17, February 21, 2012 (UTC)

Yes, we would appreciate a citation for the added names. How are the names canonical? Argadi 00:41, February 25, 2012 (UTC)
All in good time. I can assure you they are neither spoilerish nor undocumentable - just not yet. Corgi 03:05, February 25, 2012 (UTC)
Define "good time". Please, be precise. This is my curiosity that is trying to be satisfied. --Rej 19:32, February 25, 2012 (UTC)

Special use permissions from the Foglios Edit

I have recently been thinking that I should ask the Foglios if they would consider giving us a "special limited use license" to put their material on this wiki, since I doubt that fair use really cover the quantity of clips and quotes we have on this site. However, it seems this concern came up long ago (in 2008) and the question was placed to them then. That is my understanding, at least, upon reading this section of the wiki discussion forum. If I am reading it correctly, you sent off a similar request to Kaja, but never posted her reply, if any. You said:

Kaja as much as said 'sock it to me' (as Corgi dates herself badly) in her LJ reply to me, so a letter has gone off in e-mail addressing our procedural-type questions. I'll post her reply here, shall I?

Did you ever get any kind of reply that you can recall? Thanks in advance if you can find the time to respond to my raking up of old history. -- William Ansley (talk) 19:33, December 14, 2015 (UTC)

I don't have any reply, but Kaja wasn't annoyed before, see the mention on the official site. While we have more than before we don't have proportionally more.
And while I am not a lawyer, my interpretation is we are within the bounds of fair use. Consider the factors ( from the Copyright Act:
  • Our purpose is scholarship.
  • We take clips and quotes out of context. We are not a replacement for the comic and are only useful to those reading the comic.
  • We don't detract from the potential market as we are not a replacement. In fact, we advertise and promote the comic and books and even enhance the pleasure of reading the comic.
